چکیده

We introduce a multimodal stratified framework MS that generalizes an idea hidden in the definitions of Light Linear/Affine logical systems: “More modalities means more expressiveness”. MS is a set of building-rule schemes that depend on parameters. We interpret the values of the parameters as modalities. Fixing the parameters yields deductive systems as instances of MS, that we call subsystems. Every subsystem generates stratified proof nets whose normalization preserves stratification, a structural property of nodes and edges, like in Light Linear/Affine logical systems. A first result is a sufficient condition for determining when a subsystem is strongly polynomial time sound. A second one shows that the ability to choose which modalities are used and how can be rewarding. We give a family of subsystems as complex as Multiplicative Linear Logic— they are linear time and space sound— that can representChurch numerals and some common combinators on them.

A Local Criterion for Polynomial-Time Stratified Computations

Abstract. This work is a consequence of studying the (un)relatedness of the principles that allow to implicitly characterize the polynomial time functions (PTIME) under two perspectives. One perspective is predicative recursion, where we take Safe Recursion on Notation as representative. The other perspective is structural proof theory, whose representative can be Light Affine Logic (LAL). A wa...

A Hierarchy of Expressiveness in Concurrent Interaction Nets

We give separation results, in terms of expressiveness, concerning all the concurrent extensions of interaction nets defined so far in the literature: we prove that multirule interaction nets (of which Ehrhard and Regnier’s differential interaction nets are a special case) are strictly less expressive than multiwire interaction nets (which include Beffara and Maurel’s concurrent nets and Honda ...

LAL Is Square: Representation and Expressiveness in Light Affine Logic

We focus on how the choice of input-output representation has a crucial impact on the expressiveness of so-called “logics of polynomial time.” Our analysis illustrates this dependence in the context of Light Affine Logic (LAL), which is both a restricted version of Linear Logic, and a primitive functional programming language with restricted sharing of arguments. By slightly relaxing representa...

Proof Nets for the Multimodal Lambek Calculus

We present a novel way of using proof nets for the multimodal Lambek calculus, which provides a general treatment of both the unary and binary connectives. We also introduce a correctness criterion which is valid for a large class of structural rules and prove basic soundness, completeness and cut elimination results. Finally, we will present a correctness criterion for the original Lambek calc...

Proof nets for display logic

Moot & Puite (2002) have introduced proof nets for the multimodal Lambek calculus NL3R. Since then, numerous other connectives have been proposed to deal with different linguistic phenomena, a par — or co-tensor, as some authors prefer to call it— together with the corresponding co-implication (Lambek 1993, Moortgat 2007, Bernardi & Moortgat 2007), Galois and dual-Galois connectives (Areces, Be...
